This course covers the analysis of various chemical constituents of plasma and serum. The physiology, test methodology, and clinical significance of carbohydrates, non-protein nitrogen, and bilirubin is addressed. The course includes a review/overview of carbohydrate metabolism, renal and liver function including blood tests to assess these processes and organs. Laboratory Techniques concepts of solution math, spectrophotometry, pipetting and safety will be reviewed and emphasized. Quality assurance concepts and quality control procedures and application will be presented and practiced. Students will use spectrophotometers and POCT instrumentation to analyze QC material and patient samples. (Prerequisite(s): Enrollment in MDLT Major courses) 2C/1/1/0
