This course covers the objectives based on the National Fire Protection Association's (NFPA) 1002 Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications. It will define the main types of firefighting apparatus, such as pumpers, aerial apparatus, rescue vehicles, and other support apparatus typically found in the fire service. It provides an overview of apparatus construction, especially fire pumps, apparatus operation, preventive maintenance, and water flow calculations. This course will also serve as an introduction to the duties and responsibilities of a fire apparatus operator. A large portion of this class will involve actual operation of fire apparatus. Prerequisites: None.
