This course covers the isolation and identification of clinically significant microorganisms. Emphasis is placed on organism's growth characteristics, techniques for identification, safety, and quality assurance. Students will study conventional instrumentation used in the clinical microbiology lab and are introduced to advances in organism identification techniques. The correlation between pathogens, types of infection, and specimen sources is explored. Must earn a grade of "C" or better in this course to proceed. (Prerequisite(s): Grade of "C" or better in MDLT 1510) 4C/2/2/0
