Learners will review basic math skills and learn a framework of pharmacological principles in order to apply them safely in a surgical environment. These will include metric system, percentages, and proportions for medication calculations. Commonly used medication with surgical applications are reviewed in depth. These include antibiotics, diagnostic agents, diuretics, drugs that affect coagulation, opthalmic agents, perioperative medications, anesthesia agents for both local and general anesthesia Specific topics include drug administration routes and methods, blood and fluid usage, drug reactions including malignant hyperthermia and allergic reactions.
