This course is a continuation of CHEM 1711 Principles of Chemistry 1 with an emphasis on chemical kinetics; radioactive decay; chemical equilibrium; solutions; acids and bases; solubility; second law of thermodynamics; electrochemistry and corrosion; descriptive chemistry of the elements; coordination chemistry; biochemistry; and applications of chemical principles to environmental problems. The lab component of this course provides students with the opportunity to apply chemical concepts through observation, data collection, quantitative measurement and problem analysis. 3 hours of lab required in a 16-week semester.
