(Fulfills MNTC Area: 6, 8) This course explores the variety of music found throughout Central and South America as well as the Caribbean. Due to its syncretic (blended) nature, Latin music encompasses a wide variety of styles and cultures. Students will learn about many musical genres associated with specific countries and ethnic groups including indigenous and traditional music and expanding into today's popular music. This is an enjoyable, nonthreatening way to learn a little bit about the world and its people. Prerequisite: None.
