This course is designed to provide education majors for grades 4-8 with the knowledge, skills, and values to become effective teachers of elementary/middle school social studies in the grade bands 4-8. Students will learn how to develop, implement, assess, and modify curricula based upon the ten thematic strands outlined by the NCSS. An emphasis will be placed on inquiry-based learning and teaching strategies. Students will focus on the study on regional, national, and international geography, history, economics, civics, and government topics. Developing methods for integrating the social studies across the curriculum will also be explored. Current Clearances need-ed. Normally taken the semester before student teaching.
