Description:
A study of the macroscopic properties and principles of matter and energy that will be developed with appropriate rigor. Selected topics include the four laws of thermodynamics, phase and reaction equilib-ria, chemical kinetics, quantum mechanics, and statistical thermodynamics. Laboratories will closely corre-late with topics discussed in lecture and will emphasize the completion of properly formatted and scien-tifically written laboratory reports. Students who withdraw from CHEM 357/358 will automatically be removed from CHEM 357L/358L unless permission to remain in the lab is granted by the Department Chairperson. Prerequisites: CHEM 114, PHYS 114; MATH 238 or permission of instructor. 3 lecture and 4 laboratory hours for 2 semesters.
