This course introduces the parameters of the interpreting task, the interpreter's role, and strategies for effective collaboration with interpreters. Topics include disparities in service provision, their effects on culturally diverse and limited-English proficient clients, and legislation related to the provision of interpreting and translating services. This course is intended for students and professionals who work with clients who have limited English proficiency. This course does not count toward the 30 credits for the Certificate or the 60 credits for the AAS in Translating and Interpreting (TRIN). Prerequisite(s): Course placement into college-level English and Reading OR completion of ENGL 0950 with a grade of C or higher OR completion of RDNG 0940 with a grade of C or higher and qualifying English Placement Exam OR completion of RDNG 0950 with a grade of C or higher and ENGL 0090 with a grade of C or higher OR completion of ESOL 0051 with a grade of C or higher and ESOL 0052 with a grade of C or higher, or instructor consent.
