Description:
This course provides the student with knowledge and skills to manage and formulate a comprehensive treatment plan for a medical emergency encountered in the prehospital setting. Emphasis is placed upon toxicology, environment, psychiatry, crisis management, neurology, death and dying, cultural diversity, and communicable disease, and infection. A practicum will allow students to synthesize didactic and practical assessment skills in mock scenarios and a hospital setting. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements. This course requires Minnesota Human Services and National background studies with no restrictions; current state EMT certification; current AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider certification; required immunizations; current healthcare insurance; valid driver's license; driver's license check passed according to Minnesota State policy. Prerequisite(s): EMSE 1149 with a grade of C or higher. Recommendation(s): Basic word processing skills.
