This course continues and builds on the concepts and principles of single-phase and three-phase facility electrical equipment and distribution systems. Topics include single and three-phase motors and motor controls, centralized motor control (motor control centers) and distributed control (combination motor starters), low-voltage starting methods, motor speed control methods (variable frequency drives), and automation controls (programmable logic controllers). An emphasis is also placed on NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety procedures, as related to facilities management work. Students must be able to perform physical tasks to complete course requirements.
