This course introduces the sociological approach to understanding historical trauma and collective healing as social experiences. The class focuses on the sociological processes involved with historical trauma and collective healing, the impact of historical trauma, and resilience and healing from historical trauma. Special attention will be given to the roles of criminal justice institutions in both maintaining and mitigating trauma.
