This course consists of two main components: applied vocal methods and choral methods. The applied vocal methods portion focuses on fundamental concepts and skills essential for singing and teaching the vocal instrument in both homogeneous and heterogeneous groups in pK-12 music education settings. Emphasis is placed on topics such as vocal anatomy, the changing voice, and diagnosing vocal faults. The choral methods portion is designed to prepare future educators for careers in elementary and secondary choral music. It covers areas such as culturally responsive teaching, designing a choral program, curriculum and assessment strategies, repertoire selection and programming, building musicianship skills, integrating relevant technology, and applying national and state standards for music education.
