Critical examination of theories of human rights, with emphasis on classical ethical and political thought and the development of modern rights theory. Assessment of arguments both supporting and denying human rights, and applications to contemporary issues of slavery and trafficking, torture, genocide, and rights of women and sexual minorities. Cross-listed with HRT 335. Prerequisite: PLS 105 or PLS 231 or PLS 232.
