This course is designed to introduce the student to maternity and pediatric nursing. Emphasis will be on the application of the nursing process to enable health promotion and prevention. This course not only focuses on women's health and pregnancy, but also acute and chronic diseases/conditions affecting the pediatric patient. Additionally, this course prepares the student for maternal and pediatric clinical settings in various health care agencies. The student will gain an awareness of the roles of other healthcare team members and community resources. This course is part of a required series to prepare students to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
