This course focuses on the appropriate use of assessment and observation strategies to document development, growth, play and learning in promoting children's success. The students will explore recording strategies, rating systems, multiple assessment tools and portfolios. There will be a focus on increasing objectivity in observing and interpreting children's behavior, observing developmental characteristics and increasing the awareness of normal patterns of behavior. For required course activities students are expected to arrange observations of a child between the ages of 3-5 years throughout the semester. (Prereq: Recommended - ENGL1100) (BP/EP) 3 cr
