This course is an application of economics to the process of making deals. Topics include key ideas in the economics of contracts and bargaining, including externalities, holdup, moral hazard, adverse selection, signaling and screening, incomplete contracts, and Rubinstein bargaining. Readings will rely heavily on current news articles to illuminate the direct applicability of economics to the current business world. Students will use econometrics skills to analyze data directly relevant to managerial decision-making with regard to contracts and bargaining.
