Introduces Shielded Metal Arc (SMAW) safety, machine set up and shutdown procedures. Topics include personal protective equipment (PPE), SMAW advantage and disadvantages, constant current (CC) power sources, DCEP/DCEN polarity, electrode classification system and identification, weld discontinuities and defects identification and corrective practices. Lab exercises will include flat and horizontal positions using 6010 and 7018 electrodes on carbon steel.
