This course introduces students to core skills needed for the construction trade industry with a focus on carpentry. The course begins with special attention paid to the attitude and attributes of a good construction worker such as communication, teamwork, work ethic, customer service and quality. Safety is stressed throughout the program culminating with the students testing for their OSHA-10 Construction Safety Certification. Construction math will be covered early on and reinforced throughout. Students will learn to interpret construction prints as they build projects designed to provide practice of basic carpentry skills using hand tools, powered hand tools, powered hand tools and stationary power tools. Students are formally assessed on their work attributes as well as their carpentry skills three times during their time in the program.
