Course Description: Principles of Acting for Musical Theatre I is part one of a two semester course in which the student will explore the use of text, lyric and music in various styles within Musical Theatre. Prerequisite: MUS 123, MUS 124 or permission from the chair. Course Objectives 1. Analyze and perform a song from a musical through the use of text, music, vocal dynamics, lyrics 2.Apply the fundamentals of acting (objective, actions, given circumstances) to a song and a scene 3. Develop the ability to create characters from the musical theatre repertoire drawn from different genres and styles in a relationship with other actors 4. Complete a written research project based on a role from the Musical theatre repertoire
