This course is designed to prepare the Musical Theatre actor for the Acting Through Song progression: text analysis with the emphasis on an American musical. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to: (1) Dissect a classic play and its corresponding Broadway musical adaptation. 2) Examine how the composer uses the music to further dramatize a scene and advance the plot. 3) Break down the structure of a play. 4) Investigate, dramaturgically, character development(objective, super-objective, obstacle, tacktic, beat change and given circumstances) through text and lyric analysis.
