This course covers basic sewing techniques (hand and machine sewing) and basic costume construction methods. Students will learn how to take measurements of a performer and how to us a commercial pattern. A completed garment is constructed during the course. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to: 1) Apply basic hand sewing stitches to construct or repair costumes, including fasteners. 2) Use a sewing machine 3) Measure an actor accurately. 4) Draft a simple pattern. 5) Read a commercial pattern and create a completed garment from it. 6) Explain and demonstrate how costume construction skills can apply to other production disciplines.
