This course considers art and design history from the Western perspective, charting the development of art in Europe, with some foucs on Asia, Africa, and Australia. Students will investigate the invention of writing, medieval manuscripts, the origins of typography, the emergence of graphic design and its pace in the computer age. Students will be introduced to the artistic trends and developing technologies that have influenced creative work throughout the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The course focuses on the relationship between design and art, the artist's role and influence on culture and society
