This course is designed to provide a practical, functional approach to the design and integration of the content areas of social studies and science in the elementary school. Major emphasis include: (1) knowledge of basic social studies and science concepts and processes, (2) systematic instructional design of lessons and units, (3) questioning, thinking and problem-solving, (4) inclusion of literature in the study of science and social studies, (5) teaching/learning strategies, and (6) evaluation techniques.
