Description:

(3 credits) Ethnographic research (fieldwork) is one of the hallmarks of the discipline of Anthropology. In this course, we will examine the development and application of various ethnographic methods, such as participant observation, interviews, surveys, and investigations of archival data. We will also explore the ways that anthropologists and other social scientists apply their ethnographic research skills in areas of education, business, and healthcare to find solutions to real world problems. Ultimately, students gain practical research experience by designing and executing ethnographic research projects, which require them to take fieldnotes, photograph research sites, map social spaces, and utilize other relevant anthropological research techniques.
