Students study basic principles and processes of the printing industry with an emphasis on offset lithography. This is a survey course that examines the history of print, the major printing processes, while breaking down the production stages from concept to bindery operations. Projects and exercises will address the various production stages of the industry. Throughout the semester we will discuss the on-going evolution and application of conventional production techniques into the electronic/computerized arena. In short, this is a class about the nuts and bolts of printed media. Be warned: Language of instructor is representative of industry scenarios at times. (3 hrs lec)
