This course focuses on using accounting data to understand, build, and scale an organization. We will do simple math and coding (Python, SQL) that will allow us to use our accounting knowledge to devise data-driven solutions to various business problems and situations. You need to be able to do what smart engineers simply cannot do, which is to understand how technology and accounting data can be applied to improve business. The idea is not to teach you to be a coder, but to teach you to think rigorously about the role of computation and algorithms in organizations. This is what venture capitalists do astonishingly well. You must be comfortable with elementary math (addition, multiplication, division, etc.); education beyond this level is not necessary for this course. The course does not focus on journal entries. What you must have is an unbridled level of enthusiasm for using technology to change the business world for the better. By taking this course you should expect to be able to converse confidently with both coders and non-coders alike. Prerequisites: 'C-' or better in ACCTG 5150 AND Full Major status in Accounting
