This course offers a hands on workshop for the traditional building skills of the ancient art of making and decorating ceramic tiles. Participants will learn how to roll and cut handmade tiles from a sheet of damp clay. Participants will decorate "biscuits" or clay fired tiles, using traditional methods which have been used since the time of ancient Egyptians. Participants will also learn how to get the tiles ready for final firing by applying different glazes for different effects. This workshop will include a field trip to the Snow college ceramic art studio to observe the final stages of loading the kiln and the process of firing tiles. A brief demonstration on how to cut tiles on a wet saw and the installation of tiles will also be presented by an expert.
