Continuation of the study of the theoretical foundations of preventative and therapeutic oral health services used in the dental hygiene process with emphasis on preparation for individual patient education and care, communication, and nutrition. This course requires a Differential Tuition Rate which is an additional fee of $215 charged per credit hour. **COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Gain further knowledge on techniques to increase effectiveness in communicating with patients. 2. Discuss dietary habits and how they relate to caries activity. 3. Explain the benefits and risks of water fluoridation. 4. Identify a caries high risk patient. Document and report on assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation for selected patient. 5. Discuss the best treatment and education for patients in the following circumstances: Elderly, Cancer, Puberty, Pediatric, Pregnancy, Hypersensitivity, Substance Abuse. Prerequisite: Admission to the Dixie State University Dental Hygiene program. SP
