This course is a survey of Roman history from the founding of the city of Rome in the eighth century BCE to the decline of Roman power in the late empire. The course will present both a mixture of Roman history (chronological narrative) and analysis of primary source material. Special emphasis will be placed on the various peoples (barbarians) that influenced this civilization.
