Language Use courses provide students with a functional understanding of the grammar necessary for oral communication. Students learn to analyze authentic language use and then apply principles of oral grammar in producing more natural speech. This course emphasizes the functional use of more complex grammatical speech elements including linking, consonant clusters, sentence intonation, and thought groups. Through the study of authentic language use materials, students also learn to identify and use a variety of frequently used idioms and complex formulaic expressions.
