The introductory course exposes music majors, especially those interested in the music industry, and Non-Mass Communications majors (Mass Communication students are required to take sound production courses unique to the mass communications industry) to the basic principles of audio-frequency, amplitude, and timbre; the technical characteristics of audio systems-monitors, mixers, microphones, and digital audio workstation; the primary concepts of music production and recording-audio signal flow, multi-tracking, editing, signal processing, mixing, and mastering; and the business of audio recording. Credit, three hours.
