3 credits (3+0) Introduces teachers to the study of children's and young adult literature using materials set in Alaska. Addresses literary, informational and artistic elements; indigenous stories; evaluating and selecting quality K-8 literature; and response to literature. Students will read a wide selection of materials, and practice a variety of activities for use in the K-8 classroom. Students need access to children's books through a local library, interlibrary loan, or bookstore. Students will work in a school, library, or other children's program to complete assignments.
