An inquiry into the manners and motivations by which Islam appropriated and reconfigured biblical traditions in order to meet its own theological, political, economic, and social needs/interests. What did Muhammad and the earliest Muslims know about the Ahl al-Kitab (*People of the Book*)? From where and whom did they acquire their knowledge?
