This course will give students an understanding of the determinants of fire behavior through studying input datum for fire (weather, slope, fuels and fuel moisture). Operation of fire behavior prediction tools, assessing and selecting proper inputs, interpreting the results in terms of rate of spread, fire line intensity, potential for extreme fire behavior; and documentation processes. This course is based on a National Wildlife Coordinating Group (NWCG) course: S-390 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Calculations. Prerequisites: FIRE F155. Offered Spring Even-numbered Years
