Description:

Studies of the cells, genomics and proteomics of the nematode Caenorhabditis elagans have become a cornerstone of current biology. Using this simple and facile animal model, students will conduct their own biological investigations and, through this research learning, will gain an understanding of intermediary metabolism. Topics include major pathways of carbon, nitrogen, and lipid metabolism, structure and function of proteins, biological regulation and signaling, and longevity and aging. Student projects in this course may satisfy the capstone project requirement of the biological sciences degree.
