This course provides an introduction to the basic principles, terms and concepts of epidemiology. Concepts of risk, risk assessment models, disease distribution in populations and causality are explored. Measures of disease states and risks (e.g., mortality, morbidity, attributes risk, and relative risk ration) are presented. Applications of epidemiological data are explored in relation to health promotion and disease prevention. The students will gain an understanding of the interaction of personal, biological, behavioral, genetic, and environmental factors in the development of disease.
