The purpose of this course is to provide an overview of major issues in school law. The course will focus primarily on case law including U.S. Supreme Court decisions as well as relevant state and lower court federal opinions. State legislation and administrative laws will also be considered. Topics to be covered include church/state issues, teachers and student rights, laws associated with equal educational opportunities, laws assoicated with students with disabilities, tort liability, collective bargaining, and tenure.
