Description:
This course examines in the teaching of writing in the elementary classroom, including some of the major theories about how writers write and how to teach writing. Students develop ways to integrate the theories about the teaching of writing into their own practice of teaching; and examine models of "writing across the curriculum" and learn innovative ways to use writing in response to literature. The course attends to students' own writing processes and tries to model in its own classroom practices the theories proposed in the course. Offered fall, spring summer 3 credits
