This course introduces students to fundamentals of data communications and computer networks. Topics include Network Cabling & Hardware Devices, Switching & Routing, Network Security, Network Addressing & Services, Specialized Networks, Hardening & Update Management, Ethernet & Wireless Networking, Wide Area Networks (WANs), Network Optimization & Troubleshooting, Firewalls & Intrusion Detection, and Network Operations & Management. Students will complete network drawings using Visio software to build their skills. A simulated environment is used as well as hands-on experiences for those students taking this course in the classroom. A general understanding of operating systems and computer hardware is recommended. Students may earn the TestOut Network Pro Certification. Students prepare for the CompTIA Network+ Certification
