Emphasizes sonographic protocols, anatomy and physiology of the abdomen, the liver, gallbladder/biliary system, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, abdominal vasculature, male pelvis, and thyroid. Discuss vascular anatomy and applications of Doppler/color imaging along with hemodynamics as it pertains to each topic. Also discuss correlation of pertinent patient history/assessment, laboratory tests, including other imaging modalities. Includes interpersonal relationships of the imaging department and patient management skills. Achieves didactic objectives through the use of texts, images, supplemental reading materials, lecture, and class discussion. Emphasizes real-time scanning techniques and imaging protocols in laboratory experiences and enhances psychomotor skills in laboratory activities. Achieves psychomotor objectives through laboratory practice sessions enhanced by instructor evaluations.
