This covers the contributions of African-Americans to the establishment of an urban-based, modern culture in the United States beginning with the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920's. The course will cover the challenges of surviving the devastation of the Great Depression, fighting Jim Crow and the fascists in World War II, and the struggle for Civil Rights during the Cold War Era. The course will end with the contemporary America in the Post Modern and Post Cold War World taking a global perspective.Credit, three hours.
