Description:
This in depth course describes the molecular structure and properties of inorganic complexes. Students will study concepts in bonding, trends in periodic properties, molecular symmetry and its relationship to spectra, solid-state, reaction mechanisms, organometallic chemistry, coordination chemistry and descriptive chemistry of selected elements. The role of inorganic chemistry in the fields of materials science, enviornmental chemistry and inorganic biochemistry will be introduced. On the technical side students will be introduced to X-ray diffraction techniques, XPS, Raman and other basic instruments used in research laboratories. Pre-req: CHEM-308 with a C or better.
