This course is designed to extend the concepts introduced in Cell Biology and Genetics and apply them to a well-known human disease. Cancel Biology covers current concepts and knowledge of cancer, including cancer research and cancer treatment. The course will explore the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development with the aim of understanding how changes in the normal growth and division processes lead to the formation of tumors. Lecture topics include the natural history of cancer, oncogenes, tumor suppressors, cancer-causing viruses, signal transduction, other genetic alterations in cancer, epidemiology, health care policy, and current therapeutic approaches to cancer treatment.Credit, three hours.
