Teaching children to read and write through theoretical and instructional processes children encounter when learning to read and write in the content areas. Research on the expected acquisition of literacy processes typically found in the preprimary and primary school years are explored. Instructional strategies, materials, programs, and assessment techniques for developing readers and writers are investigated. Corequisite: EDEC U440, EDEC U446, EDEC U447, EDEC U448, and EDRE U414.
