This course will explore the important genre of the short story in Spanish American literature from its beginnings to the present. It introduces students to the short story in the Latin American context during the 20th century and encourages discussion and composition about development of the genre; as well as the texts themselves. Students will focus on major authors such as Quiroga, Borges, Bombal, Cortazar, Donoso, García Marquez, Castellanos, Rulfo, Arreola, and Ferré. Cross-listed as SPN 415. Prerequisite(s): SPN 204 or permission of the instructor.
