This course introduces students in the medical coding and billing program to disease processes in the human body and the treatment of disease. The focus of this course is an introductory study of drug action; routes of administration; and drugs including trade names, generic names, and drug classifications as they pertain to medical coding and billing. Topics include medications and the body, prescriptions and medication orders, pharmacy measurements and calculations, and identification of appropriate medication codes according to industry guidelines.
