Description:
-
In this course, students will follow the progression of philosophy through modern and contemporary times. Students will read primary and secondary texts dating from Descartes (17th C) to Derrida and Quine (20th C). They will acquire an understanding of basic philosophical vocabulary and concepts as they trace the impact of advances in science, industry, and technology on thought in the past three centuries. This course fulfills a core requirement and stands alone; it need not be preceded by PHI 101 Introduction to Philosophy I (Pre-Socratics throgh Descartes). This course would be advantageous to students minoring in philosophy.
