Prerequisites: AAE 273 for Art Education majors, or any major within the School of Education with a dual major in Art. A minimum grade of C+ is required in all art education courses and a minimum grade of C is required in all other major courses. This second course in the professional art education sequence will introduce and discuss the theories and practical application of teaching art and visual culture in the elementary (K-5) school. Students will investigate curriculum planning, personal, social and artistic development, instructional strategies, as well as historical and contemporary issues in art education as they relate to the elementary school setting. Activities will include but are not limited to discussion, critical response activities, peer teaching, classroom research, the design of lessons and instructional materials appropriate for the teaching of art and visual culture in elementary school settings.
