An introductory studio investigation of the concepts and techniques of painting, and the major historical and contemporary painting styles. Through a wide range of problems, students learn about the use of painting tools, color mixing, and analyzing surface qualities. Integration of drawing and design concepts are emphasized as students investigate color-value connections, articulation of form, composition, spatial relationships and their personal visual language.
